It’s every sports fan's favorite time of the year: the week leading up to the Super Bowl. After an entertaining and exciting regular season and playoffs, the two best teams in the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, are set to battle in America’s brightest city, Las Vegas.
These two teams faced off in the Super Bowl just three seasons ago, with the Chiefs emerging victorious, adding an enticing storyline to this year's game. With both teams boasting some of the NFL’s brightest stars like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Brock Purdy, and Christian McCaffery, this championship game is sure to attract all NFL fans. However, could this year's game be overshadowed by the off-the-field buzz?
Let’s begin by discussing the location of this year’s big game: Las Vegas. This will mark Vegas’ inaugural Super Bowl in its new-state-of-the-art stadium, Allegiant Stadium. Over the past few months, Las Vegas has served as the epicenter of major sporting events including the Formula One Grand Prix and the NBA In-Season-Tournament Championship. According to Diaro AS, the Formula One Grand Prix generated a total economic impact of $1.2 billion to Las Vegas, suggesting that this year's Super Bowl will be a massive profit for the Sin City. Additionally, as the excitement builds around the game, Las Vegas is also becoming known for another aspect of Super Bowl festivities: prop betting.
Prop betting has become increasingly popular during the Super Bowl week, offering a wide array of unique and often humorous bets beyond the typical game outcome. From the length of the national anthem to the color of the Gatorade shower, prop bets add an extra layer of excitement and entertainment to the Super Bowl experience. With Las Vegas hosting this year’s game, the city’s sportsbooks are gearing up to offer a wide variety of prop bets, attracting both seasoned bettors and casual fans looking to get in on the action. But just when you thought the Super Bowl prop bets would only target NFL fans this year, think again.
In case you’ve been living under a rock these past few months, you might have missed
the collision between the NFL and the pop culture world. Travis Kelce, Tight End for the Kansas City Chiefs, is dating Taylor Swift, undeniably one of the most famous celebrities in the world. According to NPR, Taylor Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce has significantly boosted the brand value of both the Chiefs and the NFL, by an estimated $330 million. This is due to Swift’s enormous and loyal fanbase now becoming invested in the NFL and the Chiefs. This means that “Swifties” may be able to join in on the prop betting fun as well.
Sportsbooks and betting apps now have the opportunity to post prop bets that us fans would have never imagined just a few years ago. How many times will the broadcast mention Taylor Swift’s name? If the Chiefs win, will Travis Kelce propose to Taylor Swift after the game? These are just a few of the options that new fans could explore when seeking to participate in the betting excitement for the big game.
Super Bowl LVIII has the chance to be one of the most notorious events we have ever seen due to all the surrounding factors. But one thing is certain: someone will be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the night.
